Well, last week was a sneaky cashmere sale, and I think I’ll continue that this week. Cashmere blends (including Shalimar Breathless and Wonderland Queen of Hearts, among others) will be 15% off all week.
But this week’s special is superwash! Ultra Wool, Painted Sky, Ciao (a great new one from Jody Long) and more are 20% off until Sunday November 17.
(The following week is going to be chainette yarns, including the super excellent Ushya.)
Yarn of the Week

So back in June I went to Vancouver, BC for the first time. I visited some excellent yarn shops, had a lot of good food, made changes to the website, and most importantly, visited Sweet Georgia in person! I had a lot of fun snuggling the yarns, got to peek into their dye studio, and went a little nuts choosing colors. This week and next I’ll be featuring Sweet Georgia’s yarns: I have two of theirs to highlight, so they’ll both be on sale for two weeks!

This week’s yarn is a new one from them, BFL and Silk DK. It’s freshly available just about now, and I ordered it in every color, since there were only 12! It’s so new that I haven’t knit with it yet, but I’m contemplating a shawl.

Yarn(s) of the Week

Field trip edition!
This week I took a special trip up to New Hampshire to visit my friends at Scratch. They have a lovely selection of hand dyed and local yarns, and it reminded me that every time I visit a yarn shop, I want to find something local and lovely to bring home.
We have TWO yarns of the week this week, both lovely and hyper local: Dirty Water Dyeworks Lilian Plus, and Lady Dye Yarns sock yarn. These gorgeous yarns are dyed in the town next door (Watertown and Somerville respectively) and are some of what’s truly special about local yarn shops.

Yarn of the Week
Wool Addicts Sunshine

With guest appearances by some label-friends!
Last year Lang Yarns started a line called Wool Addicts, and it’s spectacular. Several yarns, same color palette, and lots of fun and quirky patterns to go with them.

This week’s yarn is Wool Addicts Sunshine, a chain plied cotton yarn that’s soft as clouds and as bright and cheerful as the name implies.

Yarn of the Week

This week’s yarn, Cairns, has a fascinating construction. It’s a knit tube, but it’s also somehow stranded, so that there are stripes running the length of the yarn. On skein makes a lovely bias knit scarf, or you could make a market bag from two skeins!

Yarn of the Week

This week’s yarn is a lovely cotton and cashmere blend by Berroco. Corsica knits up beautifully for everything from baby blankets to elegant sweaters.

Yarn of the Week

Zooey by Juniper Moon Farms
Zooey is an excellent cotton-linen blend that combines the best of both fibers. It’s soft without being delicate, and strong without being rough, and so so lovely knit up. Whether you’re making a shawl with two colors or a sleeveless top with a contrasting yarn or a fun tee-shirt, Zooey is a versatile plant fiber yarn in excellent colors. We’ve added eight new colors to our existing stock, so there’s sure to be something for everyone!

Yarn of the Week

Gotimolo Summer Tweed
This lovely cotton blend will knit up in stripes. There are so many projects I’d love to see knit up with it, I can’t decide if a zick-zack scarf or a lightweight sweater would show it off best. A sweater with the zick zack pattern seems somehow too much, but it would be excellent.

Yarn of the Week

Linen Stonewash
This is such a cool yarn: I haven’t made a top with it yet, but that’s just because I keep swinging back and forth between sleeveless and cap sleeves. The yarn itself is a knit tape, which of course means the texture of the knitted fabric is different than you’d imagine linen fabric would be. There’s a lot of interesting shine and drape, as well as the crispness you’d guess!

Yarn of the Week!

Cumulus and Cumulus Dappled
I’ve been in love with this yarn since I first touched it: it is, in fact, as soft as clouds. With 94% cotton and 6% nylon, it’s soft while also being strong enough. I’d been wondering what the perfect project was, and when Jacqueline Cieslak’s patterns Ursa and Ursa Minor came out, I knew I had a winner. Cumulus is an Aran weight yarn, so not quite the right gauge, but it rewards being knit loosely. I told people that it was like knitting with kittens, but it behaves much better than that.
